Wear & Where

Whether it’s a chilled out pub lunch with family, a boozy late one with a group of friends or a cosy dinner with your other half there are so many great options in Winchester for our weekends. Over the next few months as the sun comes out, spring arrives, we all start getting a bit more social and in the run up to this years Winchester Fashion Week I’ll be shouting about some of the best bars, pubs and restaurants Winchester has to offer. As if that weren’t enough, I’ll then be giving you an on trend and locally sourced, of course, outfit suggestion to suit perfectly your weekend destination. Don’t spend your Friday’s worrying about where to go and what to wear, just remember to keep popping back to the blog regularly for your up-to-date weekend insight and inspiration.

To kick off this little series I thought I’d choose somewhere fun, somewhere perfect for celebrating the official build up to Winchester Fashion Week and somewhere that having worked there for a few years a while ago, is close to my heart. Greens Wine Bar on Winchester’s Jewry Street is a lively, sophisticated and unique bar perfect for chilled after work drinks, lazy afternoon weekend drinks with friends and when the DJ starts playing a bit later on it’s ideal for a few cocktails and a night out with friends. It’s open in the mornings for coffee and breakfast and turns into a bijou bistro for lovely lunches too, perfect perhaps for the morning after?

When you’re dressing for any venue you have to consider a few different variables such as the atmosphere, the food/drinks options and the décor. No point in turning up to a country pub in your best stiletto’s or going for a classy dinner rocking the neon brights trend, it’s best to plan a little ahead for these things. Greens has a laid back, grown-up but fun vibe to it, the décor has an elegant Parisian Art Nouveau feel and aside from all the usual beers and spirits you may find yourself sipping one of their fabulous cocktails or sampling the excellent wine menu… Later on, as the DJ kicks in with an effortlessly trendy mix of indie/pop/rock/folk/dance music, you may find yourself hap-hazardly with a shot of something in your hand too.

Spilling over onto the street outside in almost all weathers, the hustle and bustle and fun exudes from this place and your outfit should match; somewhere between a casual daytime outfit and your best party dress fits best. I’m most likely to be seen here wearing a great pair of skinny jeans, wedges and some loose tailoring on top in an over-sized blouse and tux jacket. Keep the colours neutral in general but add a pop of something lively to perfectly emulate Greens classic but fun vibe. Here’s my Winchester High Street finds:

Happy Weekend Winchester, enjoy your nights wherever you go!
