Where & Wear – No 5. Bridge Street

Happy Friday Wintonians! We’re on the two month countdown to the big event now and I am growing more and more excited each week. But don’t worry, there’s no short supply of wonderful Winchester establishments that I still have to share with you. Since this week April Showers are in full force and we are all feeling maybe a little bit worse for wear after over-indulging at Easter, I thought I’d suggest somewhere we can all cosy up and relax. But you know me – and Winchester – we still like to do things in style.

No 5. Bridge Street is Winchester’s newest offering in excellent pub dining and I couldn’t love it more. As part of The Ideal Collection that brought Southampton’s White Star, Hamble’s The Bugle and Otterbourne’s White Horse this small and local company knows what it’s doing when it comes to excellent dining, elegant and comfortable settings and a friendly atmosphere. I was privileged enough to dine at No 5. Bridge Street on it’s opening night and can assure you that since December it has only got better and better.

So while the menu, featuring local delights from the main courses such as Broughton Buffalo Burger or Lymington Day Boat Fish, or a small plate of Rabbit Wellington fills my taste buds with delight, it is the atmosphere of the place that I love most. It is just perfect for cosying in for the evening with a bottle of wine, friends and family. Ideally you’ll be visiting on a Friday night when a local band of folksy, singer/songwriter origins are installed for some relaxed entertainment. Chatty, vibrant yet laid back this pub is the perfect mix of elegant city centre chic and lovely local charm.

So whether it’s a fun Friday night with friends at the bar, a cosy meal for two in the restaurant or a Sunday lunch with the family, No 5. Bridge Street is where you should be heading this weekend. If this rain keeps up you’ll never notice inside this light, warm and cosy venue and if we manage a smattering of sunshine you can check out there outdoor courtyard too. Either way, you’ll want to be dressed casual but with a bit of a fun flare. I’m channelling this season’s colour-pop and yellow trend to inject a bit of interest into an otherwise normal outfit.

Happy shopping and enjoy your weekends as always.
