Where & Wear / Jubilee Weekend

Happy Jubilee Winchester folk! Are you ready for some serious Best Of British celebrations? The weather may be letting us down again but in true Brit style, let’s have a little whinge about the weather then get stuck into a good old knee’s up in celebration of Her Majesty anyway. How could this week’s Winchester Where & Wear not be centred on this Queen of national holidays? Hopefully you agree too and are having a Royal Celebration wherever you are… have you had enough of the Royal puns yet? Ok, sorry. Back to business.

Despite my complete over-excitement about the Jubilee I do hope that you’ll be enjoying it too as Winchester has not disappointed with events, parties and celebrations for you to attend. Winchester Cathedral is hosting the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Waynfleet Singers tomorrow and also the Cathedral Close hosts One Big Table/Festival of Volunteering for you to pop along to. The Guildhall and Discovery Centre will be hosting events and exhibitions throughout the weekend and if you’ve got kids don’t miss the Discovery Centre’s Owl And The Pussy Cat show. But my favourite site on the events schedule has to be all the little street parties that are popping up all over the City. If you have one on your street then I do hope you’re baking a cake, bringing a bottle and celebrating with neighbours, I like to think it’s what the Queen would want! If you’re in need of a more boozy grown-up celebration then head to either Lainston House or Greens Wine Bar on the 5th for their own Jubilee knee’s up. For an up to date list of all these events and more from the Winchester Parish’s then look no further than the Visit Winchester Website http://www.visitwinchester.co.uk/site/whats-on/jubilee-bank-holiday.

Ok, so when it comes to what to wear for this weekend I suppose I don’t get any marks for originality. I’m going red, white and blue. Like I said, I really am getting a tad overly into this whole Best Of British theme that we’ve got going on here at Winchester Fashion Week. But why not? I think national holidays should feel more like one great big party and a red, white and blue theme certainly gives the nation a bit of much needed unity I think. For an outfit truly original head to Charming Magpies or Fab Vintage, Winchester’s two amazing vintage stores and pick up not only a bargain but maybe something with a 50’s vibe perfect for this Jubilee celebration. I’ve found a gorgeous vintage feeling dress from the high street and styled my colours up with a little turquoise colour pop too.
