Winchester’s Fashionable Women #3

Name: Polly Noel-Storr

Job: Head Of Buying, Wish Want Wear

Connection to Winchester: Studied here

Bio: Polly first came to Winchester to complete her Fashion Design degree at Winchester School Of Art and after a stint doing work placements in New York quickly found that her niche was in Buying. Polly has worked for Phase Eight, Selfridges and Fenwick before finding her current role as Head of Buying for luxury dress and accessories rental company Wish Want Wear.

You live and work in London but what where are you originally from and what made you decide on Winchester as the place to study?

I’m originally from Shropshire, I chose Winchester as a place to study as at the time they offered what was called a “four year pathway” degree this meant doing my foundation art at Winchester as part of my degree, with such talented and inspirational tutors and excellent facilities it was an opportunity I could not turn down.

Where was your favourite Winchester student hang out?

I worked at “9 the Square” and so most evenings were spent here after long shifts.

Winchester hasn’t changed much, where’s the first place you would head to now when coming back for a visit?

I love the School of Art’s campus, going back there is always a pleasure.

Winchester Fashion Week’s 2012 theme is Best Of British. Who is your favourite British designer and high street brand?

Hard call, there are so many great British Designers, I really admire Vivienne Westwood, longevity is not always an easy thing! I think the most inspirational designer to come out of the UK has to be Alexander McQueen, Lee took fashion to another level reflecting and creating moods.  When it comes to the high street we are so lucky to have Top Shop, it makes shopping for current trends so easy and affordable.

Have you ever had the pleasure of working with or buying from them?

I have worked with both Vivienne Westwood and Alexander McQueen, one of my most memorable moments was attending a McQueen show at Paris fashion week when I was an assistant buyer, it was my first major show and I was lucky enough to be on the second row!

You have such an amazing collection of dresses and now accessories at Wish Want Wear, what one dress would you choose to wear to Winchester Fashion Week?

I’m a huge fan of Erin Featherson, I love the Beaded Neck Trapeze Gown [Classic LBD with a twist: jewel incrusted neck and simple silhouette plus the mini length lining adds a directional touch] teamed with a leather jacket and boots.
